Eminent Speakers’ Forum: Dame Justice Silvia Cartwright: The Price is not Right - The Economic and Social Costs of Gender-Based Violence to Development in the Asia and Pacific Region

Background

Dame Justice Silvia Cartwright, current Senior Judge of the Trial Chamber of the United Nations Assistance to the Khmer Rouge Trials, Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia, former Governor-General of New Zealand, first female and former Judge of the High Court of New Zealand, and former member of the UN Convention on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) Committee, will speak on the economic and social implications of gender-based violence and the importance of including it in the agenda of development agencies drawing from her experiences of being a CEDAW committee member and the insights she has gained on contributing to gender and development.
