This research project holds that the world trading system is undergoing fundamental change. For instance, the region's trade is increasingly conducted on the basis of intermediate goods and services that pass through different economies and industries before they ultimately become final products. Such production value chains substantially alter how trading nations interact, and conducting trade policy in this context requires the innovative measurement of trade flows based on value-added and the influences on the entry of small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
