ICT for Development Forum 2013: Is ICT the missing link in development operations?

Description
ADB recognizes, and is committed to supporting, ICT as a tool to promote and enable inclusive and sustainable development. ADB's corporate strategy "Strategy 2020" includes ICT as part of well-planned rural, urban, and interconnected systems of infrastructure needed by developing member countries (DMCs) to attract private investment and achieve the MDGs. Since 2000, ADB has supported 418 ICT-related projects amounting to $13.73 billion, consisting of 125 loans, 282 TAs and grants, and 11 projects funded through other sources.
The ICT for Development (ICTD) Forum is an annual knowledge-sharing event organized with a special focus on ICT. Building on the inaugural conference in 2012 which focused on e-Governance, this year's forum covered broader issues on ICT for development.
In this two-day forum, representatives from ADB, officials and experts from DMCs, donor agencies, development partners, and ICT companies discussed various ways in which ICTs can be used to address development issues and how ADB can better use ICT in its operations.
Objectives
The forum aims to enable the participants to:
- understand how ICT contributes to a knowledge-based economy
- become more aware of the value of ICT infrastructure and how to use ICT in education, health, public sector management, financial inclusion, and socio-economic development
- appreciate better the role of ICT in development efforts
Target Participants
