Major Groups & Stakeholders Asia Pacific Meeting 2011 – "The Road to Rio: Charting Our Path"
Purpose / Background
The Major Groups and Stakeholders Asia Pacific Meeting 2011 which is organized by UNEP, Asian Development Bank (ADB) and ESCAP will take place on 17-18 October 2011 in Seoul, Republic of Korea.
The regional consultation will directly feed into the Rio+20 preparatory processes and is an opportunity for major groups and stakeholders to contribute to the development of final outcomes at the Rio+20 Summit. Outcomes will be in the form of messages, statements and contributions from major groups to the themes of the Conference. In addition, the MGS Asia Pacific Meeting 2011 will take place back to back with the Capacity building on Rio+20 and effective engagement with UN Commission for Sustainable Development (UNCSD).
Objectives
The MGS Asia Pacific meeting will focus on the following topics:
- International Environment Governance;
- Green economy, and where relevant its linkages with poverty reduction;
- Principle 10 of the Rio declaration on access to information, public participation and environmental justice; and
- Regional priority / emerging issues not covered under the themes earlier mentioned.
