Background

Nonrevenue water (NRW) is water that does not provide any revenue for the water utility as it should. Keeping a low NRW level is a challenge for many utilities in Asia and the Pacific, including the water utilities under ADB’s Water Operators Partnerships (WOPs) Program.

WOPs works to enable water utilities to improve service coverage and delivery, financial sustainability, and other aspects of performance, thus NRW management has become a prominent topic in the WOPs Program’s Twinning Arrangements.

Now in its Phase 2, the WOPs Program is organizing a series of technical training workshops on specific topics. Called “master classes,” these 3-day workshops aim to train a selected group of senior water sector managers by experts from a mentor water operator that excels in the training topic.

As a first workshop, WOPs is organizing a Master Class on NRW Management. This particular master class will be anchored with Maynilad Water Services Inc. (MWSI) through its Water Academy. MWSI has achieved tremendous progress in the area of NRW management in the past four years, making it the ideal utility to share its experiences. The practice-oriented training course will consist of brief lectures, discussions, and a field visit to see actual implementation of NRW management measures managed by MWSI.

Objectives

The training is designed for Chief Executive Officers and top management personnel of water utilities to equip them with the basic understanding on NRW management and their crucial role in addressing NRW problems within their respective utilities.

Participants

Representatives from water utilities in Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, Samoa, Papua New Guinea, and Tonga and Pakistan will be invited.
