Mekong Development Forum
Purpose
The theme of the Forum is "Going Green in the GMS with Korea."
Objectives
- To showcase GMS to the Korean public and private sectors as a rapidly integrating, increasingly prosperous, and globally competitive subregion;
- To share Korean and GMS experience in the major areas mentioned above, identify areas of cooperation, business opportunities, as well as knowledge product development in these areas;
- To explore areas of cooperation in other sectors to be identified; and
- To jointly define a comprehensive package for partnership in priority projects in the GMS.
Partnership opportunities between ROK and the GMS will be explored in: (i) transport infrastructure and trade facilitation (TTF) in line with GMS economic corridor development and the evolution and transformation of GMS transport corridors to economic corridors; (ii) environment programs to help the GMS countries proactively respond to the threat of climate change; (iii) clean energy; and (iv) information and communications technology (ICT).
Expected outputs
- Increased awareness in local and international business community in Korea about the GMS Program;
- Indication of interest from the Korean public/private sectors on GMS action plans and priority projects on the selected topics; and
- Identification of specific areas of cooperation including collaboration on and co-financing of GMS projects and knowledge-based activities.
