Network of Asian River Basin Organizations: Integrated Water Resource Management Case Study Workshop

Background

In December last year, NARBO conducted its 6th IWRM Training in Da Nang, Viet Nam, where participants applied UNESCO's "IWRM Guidelines at River Basin Level" and basic "IWRM process." As a follow-up, NARBO is holding this workshop for participants from 6th IWRM training and other nominees in Asian countries to elaborate on issues and concerns in implementing the IWRM process in their own basins. The workshop aims to work out possible solutions for each case.

Japan Water Agency, NARBO's secretariat, plans to publish the workshop results to promote IWRM to other river basin organizations in Asia.

Objectives

The workshop aims to

  • Identify issues or challenges on which Asian river basins are facing in implementing IWRM and discuss the possible solution for each case
  • Based on the discussion, to shape-up the possible solutions and actions for each case study
  • Based on the discussion in the workshop, to publish a report which proposes the possible solution in each case study

Organizer

The workshop is being organized by NARBO and hosted by Thailand's Department of Water Resources.

Participants

Representatives from NARBO member organizations, particularly those who attended NARBO's 6th IWRM Training, will participate. Representatives from partner organizations, such as the Japan Water Agency, ADB, and government officials from Japan's Ministry of Infrastructure, Land and Transportation and Thailand's Department of Water Resources, will also attend.
