Regional Workshop on Human Trafficking Prevention in the Context of Increased Connectivity and Mobility in Asia

Purpose

A regional technical assistance project on Human Trafficking and Safe Migration Concerns for Women and Children into Regional Cooperation (RETA 6448) was approved on 17 March 2008. The regional TA aimed to enhance mainstreaming of human trafficking and safe migration concerns within the GMS and the South Asia Subregional Economic Cooperation (SASEC) and further enhance regional policy dialogue and partnership on these concerns.

This workshop seeks to review trafficking prevention efforts to date, highlight successful and less successful interventions and discuss how to improve prevention activities in the context of increased connectivity and mobility in the Asia region.

The workshop objectives include:

  • To review progress and lessons learned in preventing trafficking
  • To assess the logic and assumptions underlying trafficking prevention policies and activities, particularly within the context of improved regional economic integration
  • To increase understanding of behaviour change interventions

The workshop is the first of the two workshops that is organized by ADB to mark the completion the regional TA. Special attention will be paid to assessing the implications of how preventive measures can be effective in the increasingly mobile societies, along with key development sectors such as regional tourism and cross-border infrastructure development.

Target Participants

Participation is by invitation only.

The workshop primarily targets government officials and NGO representatives in the Greater Mekong Subregion, while experience from South Asia, Philippines, and global good practices will be shared by other resource speakers.
