Regional Workshop on Social Protection for Older People in Asia
Purpose
This workshop aims to present the ADB study on Social Pensions for Older People in Asia, discuss issues affecting social protection for older people, and distill lessons for developing and implementing social pension programs.
Objectives
At the end of the workshop, participants will have:
- learned the findings of the study, particularly concerning the political economy of social pensions, design and service delivery issues, financing and fiscal cost, as well as gender issues in old-age social protection;
- understood the origin, impact and various models of social pension policies and programs across countries in Asia;
- appreciated the issues, lessons, and opportunities associated with the introduction of old-age social pensions;
- recommended possible courses of action to promote and adopt social pensions as a strategy to reduce poverty among older people

- representatives of relevant government agencies from 10 of ADB's developing member countries
