This seminar will present and discuss Paola Subacchi's draft paper, "Currency internationalization: the yen and the yuan".

By comparing the Japanese experience to develop the yen as an international currency with the People's Republic of China's efforts to develop the yuan as an international currency, the paper addresses two key issues. The first is how to measure the success of policies that promote currency internationalization. Is the dollar the most appropriate benchmark? The second is that it would be more relevant to talk of regionalization, especially in the case of the yuan.
