Study Tour Program on Water Services Management
Background
Kathmandu Valley is suffering from chronic water shortages and inefficient service delivery. To improve the present conditions of water supply and wastewater services in Kathmandu Valley, the Government of Nepal, with the assistance of several development partners, has embarked on a two-pronged improvement strategy that includes capital investments for infrastructure development, i.e, supply augmentation and system improvement and institutional reforms.
ADB, through its Preparing Kathmandu Valley Water Distribution, Sewerage and Urban Development Project (PPIAF-funded Capacity Development Exposure Visit), is organizing a second study tour program on water services management to provide an opportunity for Nepalese government and utility officials to benchmark successful practices for urban water services and to bring these practices into their own system.
Objectives
The study tour program aims to enhance their capacity, through building knowledge and sharing best practices, and visits to water treatment plants, distribution networks and service branches.
Organizers
The study tour is being organized by ADB and the Government of Nepal in cooperation with the Municipality of Yerevan, Armenian Water and Sewerage Companies, the Armenia Water Regulatory Commission and ADB's Armenia Resident Mission.
Participants
The delegates were nominated by the Government of Nepal and comprised officials from the Ministry of Physical Planning and Works, Water Supply and Tariff Fixation Board, Kathmandu Valley Water Supply and Management Board, Melamchi Water Supply and Development Board, and the Kathmandu Water Utility.
