Trade Gravity for Economies in Transition: How Remotely Are Central Asia and South Asia in Comparison to Southeast Asia?

This brown bag lunch seminar by Yothin Jinjarak will report new empirical evidence on international trade, focusing on a time-varying role of distance on trade between transition economies in Asia and the rest of the world. Based on a gravity model of international trade, the seminar will discuss gross trade and net exports to understand the extent that "trade remoteness" changes across products and regions over the years. The seminar will also discuss how further trade integration may be potentially beneficial for transitional economies in Asia.
