Water Operators Partnerships Program: WOPs Workshop in Indonesia
Background
The Water Operators Partnership (WOPs) Program, a collaboration between ADB and the Global Water Partnership (GWP), aims to enable water utilities improve service coverage, delivery, financial sustainability, and other aspects of their performance. One of its key strategies is the Twinning Program which establishes twinning partnerships between water utilities—where an expert water utility mentors recipient utilities in developing countries enhance their skills and efficiency.
Given the current problems affecting water service delivery in Indonesia, WOPs intends to provide assistance to Indonesian water utilities (PDAMs) to improve operational and financial performance to ensure better water service delivery. This workshop will introduce water utilities in Indonesia to the benefits to the WOPs program.
Objectives
The workshop aims to introduce the WOPs program to the different water utility operators (PDAMs) and other concerned agencies (BAPPENAS, Ministry of Public Works and Local Government) in Indonesia to generate interest and support from the concerned institutions. Specifically, the workshop objectives are:
- To introduce the Water Operators' Partnership (WOPs) Program to the water and sanitation sector in Indonesia
- To explain the Twinning Program as an approach to help build the capacity of water utilities
- To share experiences and results of completed twinning partnerships
Organizers
The Workshop is being organized by ADB in coordination with the ADB Country Office in Indonesia, concerned Indonesian Government offices, and Waterlinks partners.
Target participants
The target participants are policymakers from government (BAPPENAS, Ministry of Public Works) and water utilities in Indonesia such as PDAMs in Kota Palemabang, Kota Malang, Kota Banjarmasin, Tirtanadi, Kota Surakarta, Kota Bandung, Kota Jambi, Kab. Bogor, Kab, Bandung, Kab. Kudus, Kab. Ciamis, Kota Pontianak, Kab, Serang, Kab. Tasikmalaya, Kota Bontang, Kab. Lombok Timur, as well as representatives from the local governments.
