When Samoa is investing in renewable energy, it’s investing in its own future. And it’s investing in their people, since when you use renewable energies you’re tapping your indegenuous resources and you are less dependent on external sources of energy. So all the money you are saving in buying external sources of energy like diesel or petroleum you will use that, you must use this GDP, this lost GDP you might recover it, and invest in your own people with education, transportation, sanitation. So, the importance of Samoa doing investments in renewable energy is doing investments in the year on population in the near future.

Q: What impact will this have on energy, security in Samoa?
A: When they are tapping in their own resources, they are getting independent. They are also getting conscious about not only using the resources they used to do in the past. They are creating more self-esteem and more responsibility and they are kind of detaching themselves from external shocks on the energy prices and going to the next step to decarbonizing their own energy matrix to provide an option to be sustainable for their population.

Q: This is the first project to be funded by Disaster Response Facility. Why is this significant?
A: We have the privilege to be the first project of the first team of staff that was able to tap money of this newly created facility. And we went through fairly new process, we created the paperwork, appropriate paperwork to tap these resources from the fund. And it was a good exercise that can be also follow up in the future by other colleagues, other divisions, and other departments.
