Afghanistan

The Afghanistan Umbrella Organization* (ACBAR) represents 97 member organizations comprising humanitarian, reconstruction and development NGOs in Afghanistan. ACBAR was formed in 1988 to help NGOs coordinate their activities in order to maximize their efficiency and resources. Search through ACBAR's directory* of NGOs.

The directory of development organizations* is a resource guide to development organizations in the Internet. The directory aims to promote interaction and active partnerships among governments, private sector and key civil society, including NGOs, trade unions, faith-based organizations, indigenous people’s movements, foundations and research centers. The 2002 report* [ PDF ] commissioned by the Norweigan Ministry of Foreign Affairs discusses the concept of civil society in Afghanistan and reviews a wide range of CSOs that are active in the country.

The World Bank Group published an article that discusses the role of civil society in countries in transition like Afghanistan and Pakistan*.
