News and EventsStudy Tour on Community Driven Development from Mongolia The primary objective of the study tour was to exchange of information, knowledge, experience and lessons learned on community driven development (CDD) between CDD practitioners of the Kyrgyz Republic and Mongolia, particularly on CDD approaches developed and used in various projects and investments. The information and lessons shared are intended to enhance the design and implementation of the Community Driven Development for Urban Poor in Ger Area Project (JFPR). ADB selected Kyrgyz Republic for the study tour which has significant experience with initiatives based on CDD approaches implemented by various agencies and donor funded projects during the last ten years. The study tour was arranged by the ADB Resident Mission in Mongolia, funded by the ADB Regional Initiative on Supporting CDD in developing Member Countries (TA 6400-REG). Consultations on Safeguard Policy Update (SPU) ADB has embarked on a safeguard policy update (SPU) to enhance the effectiveness of its safeguard policies, and ensure their relevance to changing client needs and new lending modalities and instruments. The SPU is being conducted in a manner that ensures broad stakeholder participation, transparent proceedings and reporting, and wide dissemination of draft policies, working papers and assessments produced to inform the update process, and the final policy paper. This study assesses ADB cooperation with civil society organizations (CSOs), derived lessons, and collated good practices of CSOs' involvement in ADB operations. The study looks at the progress of - and identified lessons from - implementation of the 2002 ADB business practices in the effort to ensure broad stakeholder participation and ownership, and to improve quality-at-entry processes, particularly in relation to CSOs. Launch of Staff Guide to Consultation and Participation ADB has launched Strengthening Participation for Development Results: A Staff Guide to Consultation and Participation to improve the way it consults with stakeholders and how it uses participatory methods in identifying, designing, and implementing its projects, programs, and policies. The Guide provides practical tools and tips to make participation more accessible and effective in improving ADB operations. It also aims to help staff to fulfill ADB obligations and strategic objectives to consult or otherwise promote participation. See the illustrative list of ADB consultations with Civil Society Organizations. |
