Managing Ongoing Projects

Since 1967, ADB has been actively extending its support to development programs in the Philippines through lending and technical assistance programs and projects. As of December 2005, we have provided a total of 195 public sector loans amounting to approximately US$ 8.8 billion, and 316 technical assistance projects amounting to about US$142 million.

ADB's assistance covers all major social and economic sectors, such as agriculture, natural resources, energy, transport, and social infrastructure. Policy dialogue and reform measures conducted in association with the lending and technical assistance activities have helped the Government and other development partners address constraints to development and problems affecting timely implementation of development projects, as well as build required institutional and implementation capacity for the Government's project management and project implementation agencies.

As of to-date, there are 23 ongoing projects. ADB's continued support and assistance to the ongoing projects include:

  • policy and technical support to ensure timely project implementation, improvement of financial management and procurement operations
  • harmonization of operational activities for project implementation and project management between the Government and major donor agencies
  • streamlining of project implementation process and procedures for local government units
  • provision and sharing of information on major project implementation issues and portfolio performance monitoring and evaluation.

Over the past two years, the Philippines' loan portfolio has been transformed from one of ADB's weakest performers to one among the better performers. View a snapshot of how portfolio performance has improved.
