Devendra
Chhetry
Dr. Devendra Chhetry
is a Professor in the Department of Statistics at Tribhuvan University. As an
academician he worked both in Nepal and abroad. He occupied visiting positions
in the University of California at Santa Barbara (1983-84) and in the University
of Pittsburgh (1985-87). As a consultant he worked (1993-95) with national and
international consultants to prepare the Growth Accounting Framework for the Nepal
Agriculture Perspective Plan. He studied several issues of rural poverty of Nepal
as a consultant in the project known as Monitoring Micro Impacts on Macro and
Adjustment Policies. His interests include: establishing a set of linkages between
income poverty and other social and developmental issues in Nepal; developing
a set of criteria for identifying the poor; and developing a system for monitoring
and evaluating poverty. He has an M. Sc. degree in Statistics from Karnatak University,
India and a Ph.D. degree in Mathematical Sciences from the University of Texas
at Dallas, USA.
