National Poverty Reduction Strategies (NPRS) and Poverty Reduction Cooperation Fund (PRF)
Special Initiatives to Promote Knowledge and Innovation on Poverty Reduction

To enhance country based results of ADB Poverty Reduction Strategy, two special multi-donor funding initiatives were set up in November 2001 and July 2002. Both funds are jointly managed under fully harmonized administrative procedures. The initial contributions have been fully committed to 119 projects. The strategic impact of the two poverty funds will be assessed in 2007.

The Cooperation Fund in Support of the Formulation and Implementation of National Poverty Reduction Strategies (NPRS) supports technical assistance and capacity development for poverty reduction strategy formulation in partner countries. NPRS was established with an initial contribution of the Government of the Netherlands of $8 million.

The Poverty Reduction Cooperation Fund (PRF) supports technical assistance and small-scale pilot investment grants that serve as good examples for broader ADB investments. PRF was established with an initial contribution by DFID with an initial contribution of $62 million (as of 30 June 2006).
