Official events: The Opening Session will take place on 4 May and the Business Sessions will take place on 4 and 5 May 2014. These events are open to all participants.
Accompanying Persons Program (APP): The details of the program, including sightseeing in Astana and its environs, will be posted on the host country website when available.
Knowledge sharing events: Seminars on financial and topical development issues, and country presentations, will take place on 2-5 May 2014. Detailed schedule is available under Event Calendar.
Networking events: Information about the official networking events is available through the Event Calendar.
Registered participants do not need invitations to events that are open to all participants.
Check-in and check-out times: Check-in is normally 2:00 pm. Participants arriving in the early morning may wish to book for the night before arrival. Check-out is normally 12:00 noon.
Participants should settle their accounts, including charges for accommodation (deducting the advance deposit), and incidental costs, such as fax, telephone, room service, and laundry, directly with the hotels
It is highly recommended that all participants take out comprehensive personal travel insurance, cover for personal belongings, and comprehensive medical insurance to cover any accident or illness.

Airport transfer: The host country will provide shuttle services from airport to hotels. However, participants may also book their own transfer directly from the hotel.
Shuttles: There will be buses and vans between the venue of the Annual Meeting and the official hotels for the Annual Meeting.
The name of the hotels will be indicated on the windshield of the shuttle bus as well as at parking spaces at the Palace of Independence.
Car rental: Information on car rental is available through the host country website.
The host country has recommended shipment and courier service providers for the Annual Meeting, The information is available in the host country website.
Flights to Astana: Air Astana has set-up a dedicated email address [firstname.lastname@example.org] to respond to inquiries regarding flights to Astana.
To avoid delays at the airport on arrival in Kazakhstan, we strongly recommend that participants requiring a visa obtain the visa before flying to Kazakhstan. Visas can be obtained from any of Kazakhstan's 81 consulates around the world. More information is available on the host country website. Visa on arrival may be considered as a last resort; however, participants residing in countries that have a Kazakhstan embassy or consulate may not be issued a visa on arrival. The Kazakhstan Organizing Committee has set up a dedicated email address [email@example.com] to respond to visa inquiries.
Business and shopping hours: Governmental agencies work Monday to Friday and are closed on Saturday and Sunday.
Banks are open on Monday to Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and are closed on Saturday and Sunday.
Shopping malls are open from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. or 10:00 p.m.
Climate: The climate in Kazakhstan is continental with cold winters and hot summers. Precipitation varies between arid and semi-arid conditions. Temperature in Astana in May usually varies from 10 to 20 °C.
Currency exchange and banking: Local currency is ‘Tenge’. More information on www.nationalbank.kz. Most of hotels, shops, etc. accept all types of credit cards (Visa, Master-Card).
Foreign currencies may be exchanged at the hotels, and there will be a foreign exchange counter at the Palace of Independence. Please ensure that any bills you wish to exchange have no marks or stamps on them; only unmarked bills will be accepted.
ATMs are available in the majority of hotels.
Electric current: Voltage of the alternating current comprises 220 V with 50 Hz frequency; sockets and according to European standards, with two round pin contacts.

Languages: Kazakh and Russian are spoken by the local population. English is usually used by staff of major tourism, companies and hotels.
Meals: Kazakh cuisine, Central Asian, Russian cuisine, as well as Italian, Turkish, Korean restaurants are popular in Kazakhstan. Organic and naturally grown ingredients are usually used to prepare meals.
Tipping: Tipping is not customary in Kazakhstan as a service charge is included in hotel and restaurant bills. There is also a fixed charge on taxi and railway transport.
