ADB’s country operations business plan (COBP) 2013-2015 for Nauru is aligned with the objectives of the Pacific Approach 2010-2014, Nauru's National Sustainable Development Strategy (NSDS) 2005-2025, and ADB's Strategy 2020.
The COBP 2013-2015 aims to continue ADB's strategic directions in Nauru, by concentrating on private sector development, strengthening public sector management, and energy.
ADB’s Pacific Approach 2010-2014, approved in November 2009, was adopted as the country partnership strategy for Nauru. It recognizes that, in Nauru’s micro-economy, poor public sector management and poor business climate impede development and growth. It is therefore appropriate to emphasize assistance to promote private sector development and improve the governance and performance of the state-owned enterprises that dominate the Nauruan economy.
A key economic priority under the NSDS is to improve public sector management and the use of the country’s scarce remaining resources. The development of renewable energy is also a priority under the NSDS.
