MANILA, PHILIPPINES - Asian Development Bank President Haruhiko Kuroda has offered his profound sympathy and condolences to the people and Government of the Philippines for the loss of lives and property caused by Tropical Storm “Sendong,” also known by the international name Washi.
“ADB stands with the people and the government of the Philippines in these difficult times. Our thoughts are particularly with the many victims and their families,” Mr. Kuroda said in a letter to Philippine President Benigno Simeon C. Aquino III sent on 19 December 2011.
“We assure you of our continued support, both in the immediate aftermath of the floods and in the subsequent rehabilitation efforts,” he added.
The high death toll in southern Philippines came after flash floods swept away homes on 17 December when “Sendong” dumped 142 mm of rainfall in a span of 12 hours.
