People’s Republic of China (PRC): Hubei-Yichang Sustainable Urban Transport Project

The project will build a 23.9 kilometer bus rapid transit corridor in Yichang city, Hubei Province in PRC, which will connect the main districts, provincial bus terminal and the high-speed railway station. It will also build pedestrian and bicycle facilities along the bus-rapid transit (BRT) corridor and key intersections. A 23.4-kilometer bypass road will be constructed to accommodate through traffic and freight traffic, including pass-dam transshipment of the Three Gorges Dam. The project represents a new concept for small and medium-sized cities that links urban development to the high quality public transport. This project will be a model for sustainable transport development that can be replicated in the PRC and across Asia.
