Adverse environmental impacts are insignificants and mitigation measures have been undertaken to mitigate these adverse impacts. The project brings a major improvement in the overall environmental situation as compared with the situation before the project, as the old power supply facilities were replaced by new ones, which are more environmentally friendly.

|The Project will restore and expand the electrical networks in important provincial towns, increase energy efficiency as well as building capacity in MIME and EdC.The physical component includes (i) rehabilitation and extension of the distribution systems in Banlung, Kampong Speu, Kampot, Prey Veng, Serey Sophon, Stung Trey, Svey Rieng, and Takeo; (ii) installation of new supplies to all the above towns consisting of small diesel generating sets. The capacity building component will (i) fully establish and make operational the organization that will operate and manage the provincial power supplies; (ii) establish a Private Power Cell in MIME; (iii) conduct a nationwide tariff study; and (iv) enhance power trading. The energy efficiency components are (i) assistance with Phase II of the Cambodia Fuelwood Saving Program; (ii) training MIME staff to establish and operate stream-gauging stations.|
