Description

The Project comprises (1) approximately 221 km of a single circuit of 115kV transmission line, (2) three substations, and (3) one switching station. The Project will be the national transmission grid for northwest Cambodia and therefore part of Cambodia's national grid.1

Objectives and Scope

The Project is an integral part of Cambodia's Power Transmission Master Plan which seeks to reduce reliance on imported oil for generation and to achieve improved security, reliability, and efficiency (least cost) of energy supply. the Project will bring needed electricity to poorly served load centers at much reduced cost.

Project Rationale and Linkage to Country/Regional Strategy

The Project is consistent with ADB's private sector operational strategy to effect private sector participation in the infrastructure sectors of the DMCs. The Project is also fully in line with ADB's country, regional, and energy sector strategies as well as with ADB's thematic priorities of Private Sector Development, Sustainable Economic Growth, and Regional Cooperation. the roject will contribute to national and regional development which is vital for sustainable economic growth and poverty alleviation.
