Asian Development Bank and Tonga: Fact Sheet

Since starting operations in Tonga in 1972, ADB has provided the country with $168.5 million in loans, grants, and technical assistance.

Tonga’s medium-term development depends on the continued implementation of structural reforms to improve productivity, remove bottlenecks to growth, and strengthen macroeconomic resilience. ADB support for Tonga in 2016–2018 will be carefully aligned with government priorities and provide continuity in key sectors, particularly economic infrastructure. ADB assistance in Tonga will focus on renewable energy, and effective and prudent macroeconomic management.
