Brief description of project:

The Project aims at improving health, economic and environmental living conditions of people in small towns in Nepal. The Project has three components: Component 1 will develop efficient, effective and accountable urban water supply and sanitation sector by establishing and implementing relevant policies, establishing service standards and enhancing sector coordination. Component 2 will entail development of safe, accessible and adequate water supply and sanitation facilities in about 20 small towns. Component 3 will strengthen governance and capacity for project management and operation.

Brief description of goods and related services, works and consulting services to be procured:

  1. Goods and works
    • Civil works contracts for water supply and sanitation facilities in about 20 towns (one contract for each town;
    • Office equipment
  2. Consulting services
    • Project Management Consultant (PMC) to assist the Project Management Unit (PMU) established under the Department of Water Supply and Sewerage (DWSS) for overall project planning and management;
    • Design and Supervision Consultant (DSC) to carry out design and construction supervision for individual subprojects (one contract for 3-4 towns each);
    • Consultants to assist the Sector Efficiency Improvement Unit (SEIU) established under the Ministry of Physical Planning and Works (MPPW) for supporting the development of water supply and sanitation sector;
    • Local NGOs' services for supporting community-based activities including health and hygiene education, gender equality and social inclusion.

All works, goods and services to be financed from the proposed ADB grant will be carried out in accordance with the latest version of ADB's Guidelines for Procurement and Guidelines on the Use of Consultants by Asian Development Bank and its Borrowers.
