30022-013: Southwest Road Network Development

Project Data Sheet (PDS): Details

Description

The principal objective of the Project is to improve the existing National Highway 7, Dhaka-Mawa-Mongla and selected feeder roads to (i) allow for more effective and lower cost communications with the southern/southwestern regions of Bangladesh with improvements to flood-prone links, (ii) facilitate east-west trade movements, particularly cross-border trade with India, (iii) further exploit the potential of Mongla Port to contribute to effective goods movement in the western region of Bangladesh, and (iv) support the Government's emphasis on a balanced and integrated road network system by addressing the needs of a major transport corridor. The Project will finance strengthening, rehabilitation and reconstruction of the selected links, as well as developing further road safety programs initiated in earlier projects.
