Agriculture and Natural Resources - Water-based natural resources management

Description The Project will support the Government's investment program for water resources infrastructure in order to increase agricultural production through improved irrigation, drainage, and flood control, and provide bulk water for urban areas and control salinity intrusion. The project preparatory technical assistance has two main components: (i) Part 1- support for the feasibility study of the proposed Second Red River Basin Water Resources (Sector) Project; and (ii) Part 2- initial environmental, social, technical, and economic assessments for two potential projects in the central provinces that will be considered for design assistance under a future engineering loan.

Consulting Services A multidisciplinary team of consultants will undertake the study with a total input of 36 person-months, comprising 15.5 person-months of international consultants and 20.5 person-months of domestic consultants. The international consultants will have expertise in the fields of water resources engineering, agricultural policy, irrigation institutions and management at agency and farmermanagement levels, social appraisal and resettlement planning, environmental impact assessment, water resources economics, design of pumpstations, and river dike design. The domestic consultants will comprise specialists in irrigation and drainage design and management, social and environmental appraisal, agronomy, river dike design, and mechanical and electrical installations.
