Description The objective is to assist the Government institutionalize a sustainable and systematic road network maintenance operation in the Highlands region. The Project will establish the required road conditions by restoring the road network to the appropriate standards for meeting the current demand and to enable effective maintenance. The Project will assist the government to upgrade its road maintenance operation in the Highlands region to carry out timely and effective asset management and maintenance. The Project will help the road network serve its role in facilitating economic growth and social integration of remote communities to the mainstream of the economy. The scope of the Project includes (i) road upgrading subprojects in the Provinces of Southern Highlands, Eastern Highlands, Western Highlands, Simbu, and Enga, (ii) asset management including rehabilitation subprojects in the same provinces, (iii) training, (iv) detailed designs, and construction supervision, and (v) strengthening of Project implementation and the road maintenance operation through formation for the Highlands Region Maintenance Group.
