Description The DFID grant will mostly support national-level capacity building, monitoring and evaluation, safe-motherhood activities, approaches for improving access of the poor to health services, and contracting of health services to NGOs.
Project Rationale and Linkage to Country/Regional Strategy Linked with the first Strategic Plan developed by MOH which articulates goals, desired health outcomes, priority areas for intervention, and intervention strategies for 2003-2007. The Strategic Plan was launched by the Prime Minister on 22 August 2002. MOH's 5-year strategic goal is to "enhance health sector development in order to improve the health of the people of Cambodia, especially mothers and children, thereby contributing to poverty alleviation and socioeconomic development. The highest priority intervention is improved health service delivery and coverage since they will directly reduce morbidity and mortality.
