Regional: Supporting the Achievement of the Millennium Development Goals in the Asia and Pacific Region, Phase III

Sovereign Project | 39359-012

Summary

The RETA's main goal is better achievement in MDG sectors, particularly in countries of the Asia Pacific region that are currently at risk of not achieving the MDGs and where special efforts are necessary. It is envisaged that the MDG Report III and the background and supporting technical papers will further raise awareness, lead to improved policies and institutions, and generate increased resources and capacities for the attainment of the MDGs. The priority areas that will be covered under this RETA are: (i) Improving Data Quality. This is a medium term issue that involves improving data collection capacity and efforts to improve techniques for ensuring accuracy of estimates (ii) Country Coverage Countries at Risk and Central Asia. Several countries, mainly the least developed in the Asia Pacific region, are unlikely to meet the MDG targets given constraints in resources, institutions and capacities. These countries will be included in the MDG Report and the technical background papers.
