Project Rationale and Linkage to Country/Regional Strategy

Summary of Environmental and Social Aspects

The Project will not pass through environmentally sensitive areas and will not have significant impacts on wildlife and forests. During construction the Project will create transient disturbances to environmental quality over a short period only. During operation the Project will not pollute the environment. The onshore pipeline alignment was chosen because it minimizes the number of structures and persons affected. To date, all affected persons have chosen to accept cash compensation rather than replacement of land for land; therefore, no actual resettlement is required. Land acquisition is expected to be completed in mid-December 2006. The project area will not pass through any communities of indigenous peoples.

Stakeholder Participation and Consultation

PGN has carried out extensive consultation with the Project's stakeholders since the early stage of the AMDAL process in 1999 including public meetings held in regencies and sub-districts along the entire project area.
