41062-012: Mainstreaming Environment for Poverty Reduction
Project Data Sheet (PDS): Details
Description
Mainstreaming Environment for Poverty Reduction (MEPR) is a RETA financed by the Poverty and Environment Fund (PEF), a multi-donor trust fund administered by ADB. MEPR expands on the progress made under the Poverty and Environment Program, the first RETA funded under PEF, in promoting accelerated learning and innovative approaches on poverty-environment linkages. It is also opening up new opportunities for mainstreaming environmental considerations into ADB operations and business processes. Its grants program supports both pilot interventions and targeted analytical studies. The focal areas are: protection, conservation, and sustainable use of natural resources and ecosystem services; reduction of air and water pollution; and disaster prevention and reduction of vulnerability to natural hazards.
Project Rationale and Linkage to Country/Regional Strategy
Strategy 2020 identified environmentally sustainable growth as one of the main complementary development agendas of ADB and established the environment as one of the key operational areas. MEPR has helped advance ADB s environment agenda and has demonstrated key linkages between environmental sustainability and poverty reduction.
Impact
Increased implementation of sound environmental management practices by developing member countries (DMCs).
Project Outcome
Description of OutcomeIntegration of environment objectives in ADB operations and business processes is enhanced.
Implementation Progress
Description of Project Outputs1. Subproject interventions supporting poverty reduction and improvement in living conditions are successfully implemented. 2. Increased environment capacity in resident missions and in environment agencies in DMCs. 3. Knowledge on povertyenvironment linkages captured and disseminated. 4. Adequate management and administration of the TA is in place.
Project Data Sheets (PDS) contain summary information on the project or program. Because the PDS is a work in progress, some information may not be included in its initial version but will be added as it becomes available. Information about proposed projects is tentative and indicative.
