GIL Infrastructure Limited (GIL), a leading Category - I (IP-I) telecommunication infastructure provider in India builds, owns, operates and maintains passive network telecom infrastructure on behalf of various cellular telecom operators in the country. Infrastructure set up by GIL is used on a shared basis by such operators and Information Technology Enabled Services (ITES) providers. The company's core business is to provide antennae space at its telecom cell site towers which can be rented by multiple cellular mobile telecom tenants. The company has recently implemented Phase I of its capacity expansion program by setting up 6,600 towers. Driven by continued growth of telecom mobile subscribers in the country, GIL decided to scale up and accelerate its roll out plan by setting up an additional 17,100 towers and associated network infrasructure assets as Phase II of its expansion program. An ADB financing has been requested for this phase, to be implemented during 2009-2011. Read More
