Description THEPPANA WIND POWER PROJECT
Objectives and Scope The Project will (i) diversify Thailand's energy mix through the addition of renewable energy capacity, helping the country to achieve its target of 25% of primary commercial energy coming from renewable energy by 2021, (ii) demonstrate the viability and sustainability of a large-scale private sector wind project in Thailand, and iii) install and operate a wind power plant with capacity of 7.5 MW
Linkage to Country/Regional Strategy The country partnership strategy for Thailand 2007 2011 focuses on three core strategic areas of partnership infrastructure development, environmentally sustainable development and capital market development. The government's Alternative Energy Development Plan 2012-2021 notes the immense energy potential of wind power in Thailand and the energy imports that can be avoided through its use with private sector investment.

Summary of Environmental and Social Aspects
Environmental Aspects On environmental safeguards, the Project is located about 500 meters above sea level in the hilly side of the Chaiyaphum Province, and is categorized as Environment 'B' based on its anticipated insignificant impacts. An initial environmental examination (IEE) with an environmental management plan (EMP) adequately addressing potential impacts such as erosion, noise, and bird kills, will be in place complying with ADB SPS (2009).
Involuntary Resettlement With regard to social safeguards, the Project is expected to be Category C for involuntary resettlement. Based on initial assessment, no resettlement issues are anticipated within the Project site. This initial assessment including other potential social issues related to construction and implementation will be verified and confirmed during Project due diligence. Appropriate social safeguard documents will be prepared to address and mitigate issues relevant to involuntary resettlement, if any.
Indigenous Peoples The Project is expected to be Category C for Indigenous Peoples (IPs). Based on initial assessment, no IPs are present within the Project site. This initial assessment including other potential social issues related to construction and implementation will be verified and confirmed during Project due diligence.
