Description The proposed Outer Island Maritime Infrastructure Project will develop maritime infrastructure in the selected outer islands of Tuvalu, improve safety, efficiency and sustainability of maritime transportation among Funafuti, the capital, and outer islands.
Project Rationale and Linkage to Country/Regional Strategy The project will help Tuvalu overcome its connectivity problem that is constraining its economic and social development. The connectivity challenge results from Tuvalu's dispersed typographya small country (land area of 26 square kilometers) composing of nine islands, stretching over approximately 680 kilometers, small and dispersed populationabout 10,800 as of 2012, with less than 1,600 people on each of outer islands, from 2002 to 2012, outer island population was decreased by 9% while that of Funafuti increased by 37%.

During Project Design During the PPTA, stakeholders will be consulted during the initial and final workshops and the PPTA consultants' visit to the outer islands.
During Project Implementation For implementation phase of the investment project, a scheme for stakeholder consultation will be developed and implemented.

A firm will be engaged on an output-based TOR with a lump-sum contract through quality and cost-based selection using full technical proposals. Inputs of 7 specialists with a total of 14.5 person-months are estimated.
