This country study provides updated information and data on social protection programs and calculates the social protection index (SPI) for the PRC in view of the revised SPI methodology. The revised SPI methodology also provides scope to measure the gender responsiveness of programs, and poverty targeting of programs.

The primary objective of the PRC Country Report is to present the results of the research on social protection programs and policies in the PRC from all related ministries, such as the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, Ministry of Finance; Ministry of Civil Affair; National Development and Reform Commission; Poverty Alleviation and Development Office; Ministry of Education; Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development; Poverty Alleviation and Development Office; China Disabled Person’ Federation; and, summarize quantitative information on these activities to enable the formulation of a national SPI.
