Report and Recommendation of the President (in Russian) to the Board of Directors describing terms and conditions proposed for the CAREC Regional Road Corridor Improvement Project (KGZ) in Kyrgyz Republic, for the approval of ADB's Board of Directors. The road network is the backbone of the Kyrgyz Republic's agriculture industry, which accounts for over 30% of gross domestic product and employs more than 50% of the population. It also carries more than half the imports and exports from neighboring countries, and is essential for the growing tourism industry. The economy of the Kyrgyz Republic depends heavily on road links to neighboring countries and through them to the major aviation and marine gateways, particularly in South Asia. Parts of these links are also vital for connecting different parts of the country and thereby reducing provincial disparities. The government's current goal is to upgrade all international and strategic roads to a uniform standard, but the emphasis will switch to local roads in the future.
