The Asia Economic Monitor (AEM) is a semiannual review of East Asia’s growth, financial vulnerability, and emerging policy issues. It covers the 10 members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations; People’s Republic of China; Hong Kong, China; Japan; Republic of Korea; and Taipei,China. In this issue: With the external environment likely to be somewhat less supportive and growth in Japan and the PRC also moderating, average GDP growth in East Asia is forecast to slow from a postcrisis peak of 4.9% this year to a still robust 4.4% in 2007.
