Since Bhutan joined ADB in 1982, ADB has approved $337.46 million for 29 loans, $135.39 million for 9 grants, and $54.89 million for 129 technical assistance projects as of 31 December 2013.
Despite its harsh terrain and landlocked borders, Bhutan has managed to achieve sustained economic growth by unlocking its hydropower potential. This has helped Bhutan successfully reduce poverty incidence over the past decade, while also making remarkable progress in achieving the Millennium Development Goals.
