Description
The book, a joint publication of ADB and Routledge, examines the role of environmental regulation as a means for solving existing problems and creating better futures in rapidly developing economies. A group of eminent scholars were assembled to specifically address the questions: how does economic growth interact with environmental regulation, and what are the best approaches to regulation in use today? The context of the book is the current situation in the People's Republic of China (PRC), where 30 years of rapid economic growth have resulted in unprecedented environmental degradation issues. International "best practices" in environmental regulation and management are highlighted, particularly in the sectors of institutional development, air quality management, water management, and ecosystem management. The book provides recommendations for incorporating these international experiences in environmental regulation into the PRC's future development path.
