Millennium Development Goals in the Pacific: Relevance and Progress

| Date: | March 2003 |
| Type: | Reports |
Description
At the Millennium Summit in September 2000, 147 heads of State and Government adopted the Millennium Declaration and reaffirmed their commitment to working towards a world in which sustaining development and eliminating poverty would have the highest priority. The declaration led to the formulation of a concise set of goals, numerical targets and quantifiable indicators—the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs)—that focus the efforts of the world community on achieving significant, measurable improvements in people’s lives.
This report seeks to point out gaps and identify issues and priorities to create awareness and encourage debate, so appropriate strategies to assist countries in the Pacific in progressing towards achieving the Millennium Development Goals can be devised.
