Description
The Government and people of the Kingdom of Tonga have been working together with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) since 1972. ADB has supported developments in water and sanitation, energy, transport and information and communication technology, stateowned enterprise reform, macroeconomic and fiscal management, and developing the private sector. ADB has provided, and will continue to provide, economic and public policy advice to enhance the country’s sustainable and equitable growth. Up to 31 December 2010, Tonga had received $57.79 million in loans and $17.05 million in technical assistance since becoming an ADB member.
This country brief summarizes how the partnership of the Asian Development Bank and the Government of Tonga has helped to reduce poverty and, more recently, is aiding in the country’s recovery from the global economic crisis.
