Asia Least-cost Greenhouse Gas Abatement Strategy -- ALGAS

ADB executed the ALGAS Project that was funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) through the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), ADB, the Government of Norway, and the governments of participating countries. Over 175 experts from 12 countries participated. The program was implemented from 1995 to 2000.

* This study was executed by the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN-ESCAP) and financed by UNDP-GEF.

The aim of ALGAS was to provide technical assistance to 12 Asian nations to meet their commitments under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), to raise their awareness and to build their capacity to benefit from the financial mechanism for developing countries under the Kyoto Protocol (Clean Development Mechanism).
