Danish Cooperation Fund for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency in Rural Areas

Overview

The focus of the Danish Cooperation Fund for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency in Rural Areas is to support promotion of renewable energy in rural areas and small towns.

This fund supports ADB's work to

  • reduce poverty and to improve living conditions for communities in areas underserved by national power grids and other forms of modern energy
  • promote greenhouse gas abatement

The fund will support the promotion of energy efficiency and cleaner fuels in energy supply systems and increase efficiency and conservation at the end use levels.

In these settings, renewable energy such as wind, solar, hydro and biomass may provide socially and economically viable sources of meeting energy demands in ways that do not threaten ecosystems, or lead to natural resources degradation, nor threaten the health of users.

The objectives of the project are to

  • finance technical assistance including project preparation, training and advisory services, and institutional support
  • support activities on renewable energy in rural areas and small towns
  • focus on increased energy efficiency and cleaner fuels

Eligible countries are Developing Member Countries with annual per capita GNP of less than $2,500.
