Education
Without the skills to fully realize the benefits of ICT the digital divide becomes an even bigger information literacy divide. A key aspect of a knowledge economy is an information-literate and ICT-capable labor force. ICT provides increasingly effective ways to reach out to rural dwellers in remote areas and disadvantaged groups that do not have access to quality educational opportunities, thus providing them with a link to global networks and the global economy.
ADB’s ICT initiatives in education improved skills training in poor rural areas by making up-to-date learning resources available online for distance learning for students, teacher training, and professional development. ICT also improves education administration by connecting district-level offices to the central education ministry.

| Higher Education Reform Project | Rapid economic expansion has led to increased demand and supply for higher education (HE) in Mongolia. This project will institute reforms in HE, including the improvement of governance and management of HE institutions (HEIs), through the development of an education management information systems (EMIS) and e-learning centers. |
| Secondary Education Sector Development Program (formerly Basic Education Sector Development Program II) | The project directly supports the Ministry of Education in operationalizing the reform agenda and programs of the Lao PDR Government to strengthen education, especially the secondary education sector. This assistance includes the development of a set of policy actions and a detailed strategy for appropriate ICT to support grades 1–12 education. |
| Learning from e-Learning: Testing Intelligent Learning Systems in South Asian Countries | The TA will evaluate a pilot test of a well-established computer-aided intelligent learning (e-learning) system that coaches students in an individualized format. The ADB-funded project will undertake a rigorous evaluation to assess the impact of the e-learning tool for mathematics competencies at the junior secondary level in selected schools in countries in South Asia (Sri Lanka, initially; with possible expansion to at least two more countries). |
