In 2004, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) updated the sector and thematic classification and identified irrigation and drainage (ID) as one of the subsectors under the agriculture and natural resources sector.1 ID projects had previously been clustered with rural development projects.

The process and outcome of the Asian Development Bank’s (ADB’s) country strategy and program 2006–20101 are consistent with broader harmonization and alignment policies. The country strategy priorities are fully aligned with the National Poverty Reduction Strategy (NPRS) vision, strategies, and priorities, as set out in the NPRS triangular framework of economic growth, human development, and governance. The country strategy results framework draws directly on NPRS performance indicators.
