ADB’s NGO and Civil Society Center and the Office of the Compliance Review Panel Accountability Mechanism led a joint outreach mission to Fiji Islands and Tonga from 24 to 28 May 2011. Consultation meetings were conducted separately with government officials and CSO representatives in both countries. The outreach provided an opportunity for key stakeholders to learn about ADB’s Accountability Mechanism (AM) process and ADB’s engagement with CSOs in various phases of project design and implementation as well as in policy development and review, particularly in the context of the AM. The outreach is supported by regional technical assistance (RETA) 7572, Outreach for Good Governance and Development Effectiveness through the Accountability Mechanism, which aims to increase knowledge about the AM among affected people, community-based organizations, and CSOs.
