CSOs Help Strengthen Philippines' Procurement Processes

Civil society organizations join ADB and Philippine government agencies to strengthen procurement processes for transparency.

18 June 2012 -- Philippine-based civil society organizations (CSOs) join government agencies and the private sector to make public procurement processes more transparent.

Procurement Watch, Government Watch, and Makati Business Club are among the CSOs that shared their views and experiences in a workshop sponsored by ADB at its headquarters, 11 June 2012.

"The Philippines is the only country in Southeast Asia that has procurement laws requiring involvement of CSOs," said Government Procurement Policy Board Advisor Dennis Santiago.

"The activity hopes to facilitate a constructive engagement between the government and the CSOs, and improve the latter’s involvement in procurement monitoring," said ADB's Philippines Principal Country Specialist Claudia Buentjen.

ADB sponsored the workshop to discuss ways to strengthen civil society involvement in the government procurement processes in the Philippines.
